1. See a doctor.
If you injure yourself at work, you should see a doctor right away. Urgent care clinics take walk-in patients so you can get a same-day appointment. Even if you feel fine after the initial accident, it's worthwhile to get checked out by a doctor. Your doctor can diagnose your injury correctly and prescribe the right course of treatment to get you well again. 2. Take your medication as directed.
Depending on the severity of your injury, you may be prescribed pain medication. This medication can keep you comfortable while your body heals. However, the most common painkillers can be very addictive. You shouldn't be afraid to take pain medication, but make sure you take your pills only as directed. Never exceed the recommended dose and wean yourself off the painkillers as soon as you're able.
3. Do not overexert yourself.
If you're used to being self-reliant and performing manual labor, it may be difficult to accept your body's temporary limitations. However, resting your injured body part will allow your body to repair itself. Overexerting yourself will set back the healing process, which could keep you out of work for longer. Always follow your doctor's orders. They will tell you when it's safe to return to strenuous activities. Don't be afraid to ask for help from your loved ones in the meantime.
4. Participate in work injury rehabilitation.
While you're injured, you'll have to rest so your body can heal. This period of inactivity is vital, but your body may lose strength, flexibility, and muscle tone as a result. When performed as directed, these exercises will speed the healing process and even prevent you from injuring yourself again in the future.
